What on earth is an experiential futurist? In this video I break down the term and showcase my previous work.

Filmed at the City of Sydney Raising the Bar event on 28th of April 2021, this talk is the work of experiential futurist Claire Marshall. The bushfires last summer and then a global pandemic have shown us a glimpse of our future in a world beset by climate change and zoonotic diseases. Eco-anxiety and a fear for our future is a pretty normal response but can leave us paralysed and feeling helpless. In this talk experiential futurist Claire Marshall will take you through how our brains think about the future, why it has been difficult for humans to take action on climate change and how we can reframe our eco-anxiety to take the action we need to.

Capitalism is more than just an economic system, it has become a way of viewing the world and how it operates. Futurist Claire Marshall and First Nations poet Nicole Smede will unravel through storytelling and poetry the history of how Capitalism came to change how we think. This is in contrast to First Nations wisdom. They will explore the creeds of capitalism - colonisation, competition, centralisation, commodification and continual growth and how they have changed our relationship with each other and the natural world. But they will also propose what a future might look like if we can let go of these creeds and live in harmony.

In this talk Claire Marshall (Share Stories) shares the trials, tears and triumphs of her month in the sharing economy. In September 2015, Claire Marshall embarked on a brave, and slightly naive experiment to see if she could survive in London, one of the most expensive cities in the world, using only what she could make or save using the sharing economy. It was a month of highs and lows, featuring couch-surfing nudists, fancy flats, Armenian feasts and food from dumpsters. Along the way Claire engaged in a record number of sharing economy platforms and learnt from the inside out exactly how this ‘new economy’ helps and harms us.
